We understand that visiting a new barbershop or salon can be a daunting experience. At thom. we do things a little differently compared to your standard Vancouver barbershop. Our approach is a blend of traditional barbering and contemporary hairdressing values, which is why we refer to ourselves as a ‘men’s salon’, a hybrid of sorts.

Are you a barbershop or a salon?

Both.

thom. is a barbershop and a salon in as much as the environment we have created, the experience and the services we provide. At our downtown Vancouver, salon you will find some traditional barbering services on our menu such as hot shaves (but with a 21st-century twist) as well as more salon centric services such as state of the art hair and scalp treatments. Our haircuts blend traditional barbering technique with the latest hairdressing methodology and our environment is clean, sensorial, minimal, and refined with small perks such as iPads to use while you wait and a full, complimentary drinks menu.

What can I expect during a service?

Our service starts the moment you arrive where you will be greeted by one of our friendly front of house team members. Our lounge is set up for your comfort and personal space. We offer complimentary iPads whilst you wait along with a full complimentary drinks menu ranging from coffee (with milk substitutes) and a selection of teas, sodas, and juices.

Your time with our stylists is a process of exploration, advice, and craftsmanship as they get to work creating a style that compliments you and is easy to recreate at home; they are there to put you at ease and ensure your comfort. All of our services are finished with an aromatherapy towel so that you leave fresh and hair-free for the day ahead.

How do I get to the salon?

For the reason of privacy and exclusivity, we have a coded entry system on the front door of our men’s salon. The code for this will be sent to you in your appointment confirmation and reminder. Our downtown Vancouver salon is located at the intersection of West Pender and Carroll street and directly by the Chinatown Gate.

Is there parking or transit nearby?

There is ample street parking along West Pender and the general Chinatown area as well as free 2-hour parking at the International Village Mall. The closest Sky Train station is Stadium Chinatown, only a 5-minute walk from the salon

How long will my haircut take?

Haircuts are booked on the hour. After your first two visits, we can reduce this length of time with notice if you are in a time crunch. Most other services are around 30 minutes although technical services can run longer than an hour due to the nature of the applications or processing time.

Who should I book with?

All our men’s stylists are accomplished in both traditional barbering and contemporary hairdressing techniques, and we don’t cut corners when it comes to training and service protocols. We have a price point to suit every budget with haircuts starting from $35.00 and a mixture of male and female stylists to choose from. We encourage trying different stylists if your preferred option is not available.

What products do you carry, and can I purchase them?

We have a range of products to suit every hair type and texture. Our current offering includes Bumble and Bumble, Evo and Truefitt and Hill.

How often should I get a haircut?

We advise regular monthly visits to our Vancouver salon. 12 a year with an extra one during the holiday season usually works well for most guests.

What does your availability look like?

We are a busy men’s salon. Our peak times are midday and evenings and we strongly advise booking in advance. Better still, pre-book your next appointment at checkout to secure your spot.

Do you take walk-in appointments?

Yes. Although, we strongly recommend booking an appointment online or over the phone. We can’t guarantee an opening for a walk-in appointment and a pre-booked appointment helps us to serve your better.

I got a haircut, but something feels off, what should I do?

Come back. Whilst we do our best to ensure your satisfaction sometimes after a couple of days of living with a haircut you find that you may want to tweak something. We encourage you to get in contact and come back, we are more than happy to make a small change or correction to your cut.

Can I buy a gift certificate for services?

Yes, gift certificates are available for purchase from our front desk for either a monetary value or for a specific service. Our gift certificates come with an envelope and branded sticker.
